Student Discipline value of responsibility

In any educational institution, maintaining an orderly, respectful, and conducive learning environment is of utmost importance.

What you need to know

Student discipline is about more than just maintaining order in the school. It is an essential part of the educational process, teaching students important life skills, and helping to create a supportive, respectful, and effective learning environment.

Examination Code of Conduct

We prepare student to uphold examination code of conduct:

  • Commit to the absolute importance of examination and assessment.

    Ensure well preparation before examination and depend solely on personal ability during examination session.

  • Strictly follow examination regulations and respect all invigilators.

  • Take personal responsibilities to ensure no mistake and no chance for misunderstanding with the invigilators.

Academic Dishonesty (Malpractice) Matters

We educate and act to prevent Academic Dishonesty (Malpractice) Matters

Cheating during Test/Examination Cheating during progress tests or examinations are serious matters.

Cheating is interpreted widely as any attempt by a student to gain unfair advantage in an assessment by dishonest means.

Cheating includes:

  • communicating or trying to communicate in any way, with another candidate in an examination;
  • Introducing unauthorized material into an examination (e.g. books and crib notes);
  • Obtaining an examination paper in advance 
of its authorized release;
  • Stealing another student’s essay and 
passing it off as your own.

Our Response: Prevention-First

All formal exam and test shall be invigilated.
The approach is firstly PREVENTION, including

  • No handphone
  • No personal piece of paper
  • 5m between two tables
  • Maximum 30 students in one class for one invigilator (or proportionally more invigilators for more students)
  • No Talking or whispering
  • Clear Instructions and Warning by invigilator

Actions during exam or test:

  • If suspect of cheating (without clear evidence), the invigilator may call for help from Principal.
  • If found clear evidence, the invigilator shall call Principal, and put up a “Assessment Malpractice” Form as formal initiation of mal-practice process.
  • The Principal shall vet and confirm the case, and refer the case to “Disciplinary Committee” as major offence.

Plagiarism in Assignment

Plagiarism is the act of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as your own. Plagiarism is Wrong & Unacceptable, and we shall handle it as major offence and refer to “Disciplinary Committee”:

  • Plagiarism is theft of another person’s work.
  • Plagiarism is cheating.
  • Plagiarism can result in you getting a failing grade or zero mark for the assignment or project. Further disciplinary action may be taken against the student.

Types of Plagiarism

  • Copying (word for word): The most common type of plagiarism is the simplest: copying. If you copy someone else’s work and put your name on it, you have plagiarized.

  • Patchwork Plagiarism: Patchwork plagiarism occurs when a writer copies material from several writers and rearranges that material with no attempt to acknowledge the original sources.

Self-Screening Against Plagiarism For Final Assessment Submission

 To promote high standards of academic integrity, Trinity International College (TIC) encourages students to self-screen their own assignment / project for plagiarism before submission;

  • Screening can be done via online plagiarism checking websites such as www.turnitin.com
  • Plagiarism above 20% is NOT acceptable and the student must re-do their work;
  • Students will need to submit their assignment together with copy of the plagiarism report as proof of originality.

Other Disciplinary Matters

In addition, the following offences will be reviewed by Principal/Academic Head, and subjected to disciplinary action mete out by the college.

  • Leaving the classroom / college grounds without permission
  • Bullying, including cyber bullying
  • Open defiance and rudeness
  • Improper attire and grooming
  • Violation of any College Policy
  • Unlawful actions (according to Singapore Laws)
